What is a DPO?<\/span><\/h2>

A Data Protection Officer (or DPO)<\/b> is a new profession brought about by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It is a person within a company or an administration responsible for the protection of personal data.<\/p>

The challenges of the DPO<\/h2>

The Data Protection Officer<\/b>\u00a0is responsible for training data controllers within the organisation to ensure compliance with the requirements of the GDPR. The DPO<\/b> may either be an employee under the direction of the data controller within the organisation or act as a subcontractor. It is also possible for the DPO<\/b> to be hired through a service contract.<\/p>

Who is affected by the establishment of a DPO?<\/h4>

The persons concerned by the designation obligation\u00a0a DPO<\/b> are set out in Article 37 of the GDPR.<\/p>

In the public sector, this will involve a DPO<\/b> in all public structures processing personal data such as the State, local authorities, etc.<\/p>

In the private sector, the aim will be to engage a DPO<\/b> in companies with a certain type of activity:\u00a0<\/p>
